Testing....

Testing...

Digitor Q1585
showing
actual oven temp...
...quite at odds with
oven's indicated claim

To establish the source of the problem I performed a simple test, using two thermometers (a bi-metalic strip dial type, and a wired sensor probe on a digital multimeter with a temperature function, shown left) which both confirmed the problem previously stated.
As with all other (SHARP) convection ovens the procedure as expressed in the operating manual is:
select "Convec", then required temperature from the available number key options, then press "START", when the "actual oven temperature" is reached an audible alert and display present a request for the addition of food. Following this procedure one would expect that a selection of 220C would deliver that, but as the pictures here portray, it's "nowhere near the mark".

Undercooking My Pizzas and croissants!

I should have started this blog a year ago!
A better oven?!
Late 2010, early 2011, my then 3 y.o. SHARP R-995J Convection Microwave oven started undercooking pizzas, and that's just not on!

The Saga Unfolds:
  • Tested the convection function for temperature accuracy
  • Took the unit to the (insurer/warranty) approved repairer
  • Got it back from repair, same temperature behaviour
  • Took it back to repairer only to discover they only did a part swap, no testing!
  • They then said there was no fault (even though they'd "fixed" it)!
  • The warranty insurer then made me take it back to the repairer a third time! (I thought they were going to "write it off" as a lemon and replace it, in accordance with the T&C's of their warranty)
  • I was again told by the repairer that there was "no fault found" and due to it being presented a third time (for repair) I had to pay $55 to get my oven back!
  • Along the way there had been communication with SHARP who were happily "backing up" the repairer with vague platitudes and dubious explanations about the technical workings of "convection cooking".
